Update from the MATA message board

They have an immediate opening. It’s within the Recreation Therapy department. It’s currently an evening/weekend position, but if it was the right fit, there’s ability to transfer to different programs. Fulton is currently building a new hospital, and they are putting in a state of the art art room. This job could be the opportunity to build/grow an art therapy program. Fulton has about 6 music therapists, and have really grown that program over time, and they’d like to do the same with art therapy.

Here’s the job description for a Rec Therapist from the state database: http://oa.mo.gov/personn…/classification-specifications/4463.

If you want to send a resume out, you should direct it to Janie Smith. She’s an Assistant Unit Director and the Director of Rehabilitation Services. Her e-mail isJanie.smith@dmh.mo.gov, and her phone number is 573-592-3240.

Additional information includes: The current position we have open is in our SORTS (Sex Offender Rehabilitation and Treatment) unit at FSH in the evening/weekend leisure program.    Hours are flexible, but generally 11am-8pm,  4 days a week, 800a-430p on a weekend day (your choice).  The schedule could include lots of arts activities as well as some general wellness and recreation.  The SORTS program has many talented artists that we feel an Art Therapist could provide a much needed service for.  All of our professional therapists in the Rehab Services Department (MT, OT, RT, Library Services, Vocational Training, AA) provide well rounded services  to the clients we serve.  Additionally, there are over 40 in the department so room for transfers within the facility are often available. Fulton State Hospital is a 400 bed hospital, with four distinct units.  A major focus is providing trauma informed care and quality  treatment services.  I have included the link for you to get a better understanding of what we do.  http://dmh.mo.gov/fulton/  With the trauma informed care  focus, we are developing an interest in expressive arts.  Right now, it is a great time to join us because this is just starting to get molded.  We also have a new facility being built for the maximum/intermediate security clients that will be completed at the end of 2017 which will include state of the art treatment areas.  With an art therapy degree, you’d be eligible for a RT2 position.  The pay isn’t what you might find in St. Louis, but neither is the cost of living!  RT2’s start out at around $36,000-$38,000. RT1’s start at $33,200.”
