Job Description:  Larned State Hospital currently has a 1:00PM-10:00PM Activity Therapist I position available on the Sexual Predator Treatment Program.As a Activity Therapist I , you will:

  • provide Activity Therapy education/treatment for patients on the Sexual Predator Treatment Program Units, in order to fulfill the mission/vision of Larned State Hospital. The person in this position schedules Activity Therapy leisure sessions and provides Activity Therapy Services. The Activity Therapist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the Sexual Predator Treatment Program Units ages 18 to100. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess date reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient¿s requirements relative to his age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit and department policy and procedures. Participates in Natural Work Teams and/or Quality Action Teams by applying job knowledge to develop program or process enhancements by using Kansas Quality Management processes and tools. Minimum State Requirement Four Years of experience in therapeutic recreation, horticulture therapy or one of the creative arts or therapy disciplines such as art, dance/movement or music therapy. Education may be substituted for experience as determines relevant by the agency. Preferred education/experience that will be used to screen applicants - Bachelor¿s degree related field, such as, but not limited to, recreation, physical education, art, music, horticulture, industrial arts, vocational training, communications, education, criminal justice. Hours are 1:00PM-10:00PM with rotating weekends.

Washburn University is seeking someone with a Master’s in Art therapy to teach an Undergraduate Art Therapy class at Washburn University in the fall.

The class would be 1 night a week, Tuesdays from 5:30-8:15 for 15 weeks starting Aug. 18.  You would receive $1800.  The class structure is fairly flexible and past instructors have included a combination of lecture and studio.  It is a introductory class open to students who have taken psychology 101.  The class typically has between 20-30 students.
